HEALTHCARE LEADERS URGE CONGRESS TO BOOST INCENTIVES TO SUPPORT VALUE-BASED CARE THAT PUTS PATIENTS FIRST

“We are pleased that Congress continued the Medicare incentive for provider participation in advanced alternative payment models (APMs), which is critical to helping transition to value-based care. Congress faces unyielding fiscal constraints and many competing policy priorities, so providing this incentive shows that value-based care remains a bipartisan priority.

“However, the modest 1.88% incentive in Congress’ spending package – which is approximately half of the incentive provided in 2023 – does not go far enough to guarantee the continued movement to value-based care or towards achieving the Administration’s ultimate goal of fully transitioning to accountable care by 2030. Transforming U.S. healthcare into a higher-performing, lower-cost system requires adequate, sustainable resources. Incentives for value-based care allow physicians and other providers to invest in people and technology to coordinate care, improve patient outcomes, and reduce unnecessary spending.

“We ask Congress to build on this track record of success and look forward to working together on the next iteration of APM incentives to further boost high-value, patient-centered care well into the future. Making incentives predictable from year-to-year would further prioritize providers’ abilities to meet the needs of their patients.”
